ChinTalk is a kids' language-learning app that helps people learn Hakha
Chin and related languages. We built ChinTalk with children in mind, and
protecting family privacy is central to how the app works. This policy
explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you
and your family have.

Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we
collect an email address and a display name. You may choose an avatar
from a curated set of built-in images — ChinTalk does not ask for or
upload photos from your device.
- Learning activity. We store your learning progress,
experience points (XP), streaks, lesson completion, and similar
progress data so the app can pick up where you left off and celebrate
your achievements.
- Microphone audio for pronunciation practice. When
you use a pronunciation exercise, the app listens through the microphone
so you can practice speaking. This audio is processed on your device or
by your device's built-in platform speech service. ChinTalk does
not upload, transmit, or store your voice recordings —
the audio is used momentarily to give you feedback and is then
discarded.
- Subscription and purchase data. If you buy a
subscription, the purchase is made through Apple's App Store or Google
Play. Those stores handle payment. ChinTalk receives a receipt or
subscription status (for example, whether a subscription is active and
when it renews) so we can unlock premium features. No credit-card or
payment-card data ever passes through ChinTalk.
- Parent-linking and friend codes. To support
parental controls and friend invites, we store the codes used to link a
parent to a child account or to connect friends.
- Diagnostics. We collect crash reports and basic
performance and usage analytics to keep the app stable and improve it.
Advertising identifiers are not collected and ad personalization is
turned off.
How we use information
- To provide the core learning experience and save your progress.
- To operate accounts, sign-in, and parental controls.
- To process and verify subscriptions through the app stores.
- To diagnose crashes and improve app performance and content.
We use your information only to run and improve ChinTalk.
No ads, no data sales, no third-party tracking
ChinTalk does not show third-party advertising, does
not sell or rent personal data, and does
not use your data for cross-app or cross-site tracking.
We do not collect an advertising identifier (IDFA/AAID), and ad-related
analytics collection is disabled.
Where your data is stored
Account and learning data is stored using Firebase (Google Cloud) in
the United States (us-central1 region). Google processes this data on our
behalf as our service provider.
Children's privacy and parental rights
ChinTalk is designed for children and families and we aim to comply
with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar
laws. We collect only the limited information described above, and we do
not condition a child's participation on disclosing more than is
reasonably necessary. We do not knowingly use children's data for
advertising or tracking.
Parents and guardians have the right to:
- Review the personal information associated with
their child's account.
- Delete that information and close the account. You
can delete the account and its data from within the app (Account
settings → Delete account), or by emailing us at
biakhleisang@gmail.com.
- Refuse further collection by discontinuing use of
the app and deleting the account.
We will respond to verified parental requests within a reasonable time.
Data retention and deletion
We keep account and learning data while your account is active. When
you delete your account, we delete the associated personal data, except
where we must retain limited records to meet legal, security, or
transaction (for example, purchase-verification) obligations.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including authentication and
access controls provided by Firebase, to protect your information. No
method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to
protect your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the
effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app.
